Kirkham Library

Kirkham library is one of the smaller branches which has survived the cuts to the Lancashire County Council’s library budget. Having said that it will be moving into the Milbanke building across the road to save overhead costs.

It is one of those early public sector brick buildings built to a cost limit where form follows function. The architect has attempted to salvage a little grace and status with the provision of a stone entrance surround. That having been said it is a pretty basic design but it has had a recent refurbishment which gives the interior has a much softer and pleasanter feel.
