This view was sketched from the Market Square. The building on the corner was Barclays Bank until recently and next to it on the left are a chip shop, a restaurant, a sewing shop and an accountancy service. On the other side to the right are a barbers and a fruit and vegetable shop.
Kirkham is a typical small market town in the North of Lancashire that sits between Preston and Blackpool. Although it is quite ancient and mentioned in the Domesday Book most of the buildings are more recent dating from the late 19th century to the 21st century.
I have sketched several of the streets and building in the town. I like the warmth of the red brick and the way that it combines with the other colours used in the rendering. This particular sketch is the first in a series that will cover the high street and will eventually be combined into a watercolour panorama painting.
